Hosting the 2009 CEO Conference of the AESIEAP, Taipower Marches On To Become a World Class Power Company

The biennial CEO Conference of AESIEAP was successfully convened in Kaohsiung. As the hosting organization of the 2009-2010 AESIEAP Conference, Taipower, under the theme of “Challenges and Opportunities of the Electric Power Industry in an Uncertain Era”, extended invitations to representatives from electric power companies and industry organizations in the USA, South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, etc to attend and to share their views and experiences at the Conference. The Conference proved to be extremely conducive to the promotion of exchanges between the power industry of Taiwan and that of the world and to improving and lifting Taiwan’s image on the international stage.

In his capacity as President of AESIEAP, Mr. Edward K.M. Chen, Chairman of Taipower gave a welcome address at the Opening Ceremony of the Conference during which he also thanked all the distinguished guests for their presence and for their generous exchange of information and experiences. President Chen said that choosing the Conference Theme: “Challenges and Opportunities of the Electric Power Industry in an Uncertain Era”, it sought to encourage a diverse range of perspectives from representatives of different countries and discuss how they roll out their plan and set the goal for the electric power industry in their respective countries so as to mitigate the uncertainty of the future development. Unlike the previous modes of presentations, during the Conference, Taipower specially devised a Electricity Utility CEO Roundtable Forum which was a pioneering initiative by Taipower. AESIEAP consists of an extensive member base and each member commands unique and professional operational area. Whilst Taipower has engaged, in the past, in some bilateral exchanges with some AESIEAP members, such a multilateral engagement during a Conference was the first of its kind ever to be held in Taiwan. Focusing on low carbon strategy, electric power technology and electricity price, the Roundtable Forum explored higher level technological and management issues. Afterwards, the VIP guests expressed their confidence that the discussions held over this Roundtable Forum will surely be conducive to the improvement of the mode of operation of various electric power industries in their respective countries.

Apart from the arranged activities of the Conference, in order to provide delegates with first hand information of the mode of operation of modern Taiwan Electric Power plants, conference guests were also taken to Hsinta Power Plant in Kaohsiung County for a site inspection. Apart from inspecting various electric power equipment and appliances within the Plant, they also went to the famous Hsinta Coal Unloading Pier to see how coal is loaded and unloaded. With a detailed introduction provided onsite, chief representatives from different countries have obtained a deep understanding of the tremendous efforts exerted by and achievements of Taipower in the electric power development sphere, which left favourable and profound impressions on the minds of the VIP visitors. They expressed an earnest hope for further talks and discussions in the future.

Taipower said that apart from the sharing of knowledge and technology, it also took full advantage of the gathering of the top executives and CEOs around the world to promote the 18th Conference of the Electric Power Supply (CEPSI) to be held in Taipei in October 2010. It is anticipated that international companies like IBM, ABB and Mitsubishi will all be present and participate in the exhibition. The Event will attract over 1000 Asia Pacific Electric Power Industry CEOs and experts and provide power related industries in Taiwan such as Big Sun, electric motor and fan plants with enormous business opportunities.
